Karen Notgarnie is a Certified Professional Virtual Assistant who graduated from AssistU Virtual University in 2000. Before starting her virtual assistant career, she spent over a decade in the corporate world, working as an Executive Secretary, Administrative Assistant, and Branch Administrator across various industries, including printing machinery wholesale, commercial crane rentals, financial consulting, chemical manufacturing, law firms, banks, and more. These experiences gave her valuable insights into managing complex administrative tasks at the highest levels of professionalism.
How Karen Became a Virtual Assistant
After relocating to the United States, Karen found herself at a crossroads. With her valuable corporate experience, she knew she wanted something different—something that would allow her to do what she loves (challenging administrative work) while offering the flexibility and freedom to be her own boss.
While exploring her options, Karen worked with a temp agency and joined the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). It was there that a colleague introduced her to the concept of Virtual Assisting and AssistU’s certification program. The moment she heard about it, everything clicked. She knew this was the perfect path for her. After completing the certification, she officially launched her Virtual Assistant career—and has never looked back since.
